2FA: Two Factor Authentication

Many online providers ask us to install additional security for our accounts. Even Facebook.

During the pandemic there was a spate of cyberattacks that have led to this sharpening of security, and it’s understandable that financial institutions require this too, like when you log into your bank or cryptocurrency exchange account e.g. Kraken.

2FA or Two Factor Authentication adds a second layer of security, after adding the usual user name and password, when logging into your account.

The easiest 2FA solution is to install Google Authenticator app on your mobile phone or tablet.

When you log in, you will be asked to scan a QR-code to link your account to your device.

Each time you open the Authenticator app, new codes are generated and last for 40 seconds. New ones are generated if you miss the timeframe.
